About the work: The 2025 exhibition at Akron Soul Train gathered eight journeys rooted in Iran, Yemen, Italy, Syria, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Kenya, Saudi Arabia, and Alabama (USA). This ephemeral floor piece of chosen spices and patterns revealed a shared humanity—a fragrant tapestry of connection. Through intimate interviews, stories of identity and longing unfolded. Drawn from eight journeys across continents and cultures, Tapestry in Harmony weaves spice, pattern, and memory into a temporary landscape of belonging. Like a tapestry stitched by many hands the piece explored our shared fragility and the beauty of our interconnectedness.

About the work: A Thyme for Everything draws inspiration from the Mediterranean world, where trade, migration, food, and culture have intertwined for centuries. The work references Marseille, one of Europe’s oldest port cities, whose history has been shaped by the movement of people, spices, textiles, and ideas across continents. The arabesque border evokes this vibrant exchange, while the Fleur-de-Lis recalls the city’s historic churches and architectural heritage.
At the center of the work is thyme—an herb deeply rooted in Mediterranean life. Preserved within resin, it becomes both artifact and symbol: a reminder of nourishment, memory, and the enduring connections between place, tradition, and everyday rituals. The title, A Thyme for Everything, celebrates the way ordinary ingredients can carry stories across generations and cultures.

About the work: Church Window is a meditation on the sacred languages carried through scent, ritual, and remembrance. Framed as a stained-glass window, it gathers spices from distant traditions into shared contemplation: star anise evoking Eastern rites of healing and ceremony, cardamom recalling gatherings of blessing, cinnamon and clove marking festivals and passage. Encased in translucent resin, these once-living materials glow like memory caught in light — relics of journeys traded across continents and woven into acts of worship. Though rituals differ, the longing beneath them is familiar: to touch the eternal, and find beauty in the presence of mystery.
